About 20 ostriches made a bid for freedom in Canada yesterday, escaping their enclosure before setting off through the streets of Taber, Alberta.

Police said they responded to assist rounding up the birds, as they were causing a traffic hazard.

A video posted to social media showed a police vehicle chasing down one ostrich, as the bird's owner tried to catch it from the window.

Local media reported that all but one of the escaped birds were captured and returned to their owner.

One ostrich was hit on the road and killed.
