Time to see how the Roy family are doing after last season’s huge betrayal…

Some spoilers for Succession Season 3 ahead.

The final episode of the third season of Succession arrived just before Christmas 2021, and to be honest, we’re still emotionally recovering.

After the Roy siblings, after DECADES of squabbling, finally come together to take down their dad Logan and remove him as head of the Waystar Royco conglomerate, it turns out that one of their own – Shiv’s husband Tom – had tipped Logan off about the impending familial coup d’etat, in order to secure his own position in the future of the company.

And it all ended with the pure Shakespearian moment of betrayal shown above, with Shiv barely able to suppress her rage. So… what’s next?

Well, HBO has confirmed that season four is now officially filming, and that after the nine episodes of the third season (likely reduced due to the pandemic), the fourth season will be a full 10 episodes.

HBO also revealed the plot synopsis for the upcoming season:

“In the 10-episode season four, the sale of media conglomerate Waystar Royco to tech visionary Lukas Matsson moves ever closer. The prospect of this seismic sale provokes existential angst and familial division among the Roys as they anticipate what their lives will look like once the deal is completed. A power struggle ensues as the family weighs up a future where their cultural and political weight is severely curtailed.”

In case you’d forgotten, Lukas Matsson (Alexander Skarsgård) is the volatile billionaire that Roman (Kieran Culkin) had introduced to Logan (Brian Cox) before everything went to hell.

HBO also confirmed that Brian Cox, Jeremy Strong, Sarah Snook, Kieran Culkin, Alan Ruck, Matthew Macfadyen, Nicholas Braun and J. Smith-Cameron are all returning for their roles in the new season, with additional new cast members to be announced soon.

Considering the quick turnover time in production, there is a chance we’ll be seeing the Roy family return to our screens before the end of the year.

In the meantime, check out our exclusive interview with the backstabber himself Tom (Matthew Macfayden), about some of the highlights of the show so far and what he thinks really lies in the future for his character:
