121 new cases of Covid-19 confirmed in Ireland

There are now more than 1,000 cases on the island of Ireland.

121 new cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed in Ireland according to new figures released by the Department of Health.

It brings the total number of cases in Ireland to 906.

One more death from coronavirus has sadly been confirmed, a man in the east of the country, bringing the total number to four.

There are now more than 1,000 cases of coronavirus on the island of Ireland with 906 cases in the Republic and 128 in Northern Ireland.

Northern Ireland has also recorded two deaths from Covid-19.

There are currently 40,000 people waiting for a Covid-19 test in Ireland.

The HSE said on Sunday morning it expects the backlog of tests to be addressed next week as more testing sites are created with more testing meaning more confirmed cases.

HSE CEO Paul Reid also warned the public that Ireland is going to see a strain on its health system the likes of which the country has never seen.
