Lewis Burton has paid tribute to tragic girlfriend Caroline Flack who died yesterday, simply saying his heart is broken.

Sharing an unseen picture of the pair hugging on the beach, he wrote on Instagram: "My heart is broken we had something so special.

"I am so lost for words I am in so much pain I miss you so much I know you felt safe with me you always said I don’t think about anything else when I am with you and I was not allowed to be there this time I kept asking and asking.

"I will be your voice baby I promise I will ask all the questions you wanted and I will get all the answers nothing will bring you back but I will try make you proud everyday."

Caroline was found dead at home on Saturday. Her family confirmed she took her own life.

The couple had been together since June 2019 and pals had said Caroline was happier than she had ever been.

They were said to have started dating soon after Caroline touched down in the UK following her stint in Mallorca for Love Island over the summer.

She made it official with hunky Lewis, 27, in August, when the former pro tennis player shared a picture showing Caroline kissing him on the cheek.

The caption read: "Self confessed @carolineflack."

Just hours before her death she had Instagrammed Valentine’s Day snaps of herself with her dog Ruby looking happy and healthy – but no words were attached.

They were uploaded after Lewis shared a picture of them both on Instagram with the message “Happy Valentine’s... Love you”.

Lewis had said he wanted the assault case to be dropped. The heartbreaking message, which broke the bail conditions, was soon taken down.

Friends last night said Caroline had been in a fragile state of mind since the incident at the £1million home they shared in Islington, fearing for her career.

And she was said to be terrified of her impending court date on March 4.

One pal said: “She was on her own. She couldn’t take it any more. Her family are devastated.”

And another added: “Caroline couldn’t bear the thought of going through the court case. She felt her career would never recover from this – and she felt humiliated in front of the world.

“In the end she just couldn’t see a way out. She didn’t know how to fix herself.”

A spokesperson for the Flack family confirmed the sad news of her death on Saturday, stating: "We can confirm that our Caroline passed away today on the 15th February.”

They added: “We would ask that the press respect the privacy of the family at this difficult time."
