Some history…
The first model was introduced in 1774 by Johann Birkenstock. It was not until a century later that the family business offered shoes with a cork sole; at the time they were reserved for the medical field. Despite the comfort of the shoes, the German brand struggled to conquer the fashion world until 1970, when they were finally adopted in the United States by the "cool kids". In the 1990's, the original sandals came in a new color wave. Today, fashion houses and designers consistently and creatively reinvent the trendy sandals-- most notably done by Valentino or Rick Owens.
The fashion obsession of 2021
In 2020, the most popular models were the Arizona sandals featuring two straps. This summer, the trend consisted of clogs, especially the brand's Boston model. The sandal’s normcore aesthetic is very appealing to us and influences our daily fashion routine. Therefore, we're not going to be shy about wearing them this fall, both in the city and at home.
