Ridley Scott uncovers the secrets of three generations of the Gucci dynasty in his upcoming film planned for Fall 2021.

Packed with design, heritage, power and infidelity, Gucci promises to unveil thirty years of the family secrets of one of the most legendary Italian fashion houses. For its reconstitution of the facts, Ridley Scott will follow particularly the true story of Patrizia Reggiano, who was charged guilty of the murder of her ex-husband Maurizio Gucci. Roberto Bentivegna is writing the script based on Sara Gay Forden's book published in 2001: The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed. Ridley Scott is producing the film with his wife Giannina Scott, Scott Free Productions and Kevin Walsh.

An all-star cast

Ridley Scott does not do things by halves. As he is still working on The Last Duel with Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, the casting of his next film promises to be just as prestigious. Jeremy Irons, Jared Leto, Al Pacino… great actors for the lead roles. Initially planned for Robert De Niro, the role of Rodolfo Gucci (son of Guccio and father of Maurizio) has finally landed in the hands of Jeremy Irons. In preparation for more than a decade, the film Gucci should have had Angelina Jolie as part of its cast. The filmmaker had negotiated with the actress in 2009 to offer her the role of Patrizia Reggiano. In the end, it is Lady Gaga who will take on Italy's most famous widow. After A Star is Born, the singer is confirming her acting talent in a second super production. Adam Driver - with whom Ridley Scott is already collaborating on The Last Duel - will be acting alongside her. The Oscar-nominated actor for Marriage Story and Blackkklansman will embody Maurizio Gucci, the Italian boss with the sinister destiny. The French actress, Camille Cottin, discovered in the series Call My Agent, will play Paola Franchi, the one who replaced Patrizia Reggiani in Maurizio Gucci's heart.

Filming and release

The fact that MGM is planning to release Ridley Scott's film in 2021 is no coincidence. The year marks the anniversary of the 100 years of the foundation of Guccio Gucci's brand. The story of the house with the crossed Gs starts with a leather store in the heart of Florence. Slowly, Guccio Gucci develops the brand until it becomes the empire we know today. If, because of the pandemic, nobody can predict when exactly the film will be released, the production dates are already set. According to the latest information delivered by the studios, filming should be held in March and April 2021 between Milan and Florence, the birthplace of the Italian house.
