Euphoria is back. Finally. At least for a couple of ‘bridge episode’ installments (as Zendaya — who plays Rue in the hit show — predicted this autumn), the first of which will premiere on 6 December via HBO.
Filming for the much-anticipated second season of the series was heavily delayed due to this year’s pandemic lockdowns. And while its official release date has been pushed back until 2021, the cast and creators got inventive in the meantime by capturing two prelude episodes to ensure that Euphoria fans were not left completely empty-handed in 2020.
Beyond the gen-Z dramas, the fallible-yet-lovable characters, and the casts’ stellar performances, one of the standouts of the Emmy-sweeping show is its beauty looks.
One contender for the show’s ‘best makeup’ award would surely be Barbie Ferreira’s character Kat Hernandez and it turns out the actor’s own beauty tendencies are just as bold and brilliant out of character.
“The rookie mistake is doing your skin first, then a complicated eye, and then you just start crying and taking your makeup off five times,” says the beauty aficionado while prepping her color-popping ombre-liner look for Vogue.
Ferreira’s star power was first ignited while modeling for American Apparel, a job she scored when she turned up to an open casting. By that time, Ferreira already boasted a strong online presence thanks to her rise within the Tumblr set, and so her loyal following grew even more. Fast-forward to 2019 and Ferreira was officially catapulted into the limelight for her contribution to the critically acclaimed Euphoria.
“Makeup is a vessel for communicating how the characters feel,” Ferreira muses, and unsurprisingly the trailblazer has picked up a slew of beauty tips from her experience in the industry. “When I apply moisturizer, I tap. Don’t you forget that neck — don’t you forget it!”
Today, she shows us how to create a look that she would “wear literally anywhere” and it playfully comes with edgy accents, such as when Ferreira lines her lid in buttery-yellow with a slanted brush before overlaying an orange hue to create an ombre effect.
And how did she come up with this sunset-inspired finish? “I learned to do this while playing around with my own makeup,” Ferreira states, which makes sense since the actor further reveals she once dreamed of being a makeup artist herself.
