Entitled "Balade en Méditerranée" (A Trip Around the Mediterranean), this digital event by Chanel redesigned the contours of the traditional fashion show. Forced to cancel the one initially planned in Capri on May 7 due to the global health crisis, the house presented its 2021 cruise collection in a video lasting 7 minutes and 13 seconds that was unveiled on the brand's digital media platforms.

A poetic short film, with a nod to Capri

Like a stroll along the Mediterranean coast, the Chanel Cruise 2020-2021 collection was unveiled on June 8 at noon, Paris time. This 2.0 presentation featuring 51 everyday silhouettes, ideal for light travel, succeeded in creating a perfect holiday wardrobe that came to life against a backdrop of sunsets and sunny terraces.

An upcycled collection

In conjunction with the show, Chanel unveiled a first preview of its 2021 Cruise collection on Instagram on Friday, June 5. As with each of its collections, the house revealed its refined craftsmanship, this time using fabrics it already owned, as highlighted in a press release by Virginie Viard, creative director of Chanel

Pink in every shade

From fuchsia, to raspberry, alongside the black and white silhouettes, the signature of Chanel essence, pink took pride of place and recalled the bougainvillea flowers hung on the facades of Italian houses. In the course of a free and feminine wardrobe, pink was the chosen color for a second-skin suit, a flowing dress and a short suit with chic and simplicity at their core.

1990s influences

Essentially casual, denim was doubled up or twisted with a tweed patchwork and a signature camellia print. As for accessories, retro influences reigned supreme: a pop-pink bowling bag, an accumulation of jewelry belts and neo-visors rose to the top of a new summer wish-list.

Couture flip-flops

Alongside Mary Janes, Oxford shoes and ballet pumps, timeless with the classic elegance of Chanel, flip-flops were reinterpreted in an ultra-luxury style that featured a golden straw wedge sole, an ankle strap and a gold chain... The ultimate accessory to wear at sunset.

A stellar cast

51 silhouettes brought to life by 4 models: Cris Herrmann, Mica Argañaraz, Karly Loyce and Camille Hurel. Faithful to the house of Chanel, they modelled the 2021 Cruise collection to the rhythm of Time by Arca, Famous Monsters by Chromatics and Domestic Tasks by Sébastien Tellier.

The chic evening wardrobe

The idea? Minimalist chic, but versatile. Either monochrome pieces or plays on sequins and transparency were imagined on pieces that adapt to every occasion of the day. Long skirts could become strapless dresses when pulled up, long black muslin jackets could be worn during the day over a triangle swimsuit, or in the evening with a small embroidered bandeau and jeans.
