After a highly realistic faux fur unveiled in October 2019 and the launch of a pair of vegan sneakers in collaboration with adidas in December 2019, Stella McCartney is once again asserting her eco-friendly approach to fashion to kick off the new year. The proof? In partnership with Candiani, an Italian label famous for its eco-friendly jeans, the 48-year-old American is about to unveil a brand new 100% biodegradable denim. "It's our duty to move towards renewable resources, as well as biodegradable and compostable materials," said Alberto Candiani, owner of the Italian brand in an official statement.

Are these the jeans of tomorrow?

While more and more fashion labels are taking on the challenge of more environmentally friendly jeans, Stella McCartney's biodegradable denim is already shaping up to be the one that all fashion labels will adopt as soon as it comes out in May 2020. The reasons? Say goodbye to plastic and toxic products, this new prototype is created exclusively from biodegradable ingredients and plants. The techniques used to make this material have also been thought out with the aim of using less water and energy during production. All these elements open a new chapter in the story of Stella McCartney and sustainable fashion.

The new denim will be available in ten pieces from Stella McCartney's Fall 2020 collection, and will be available in stores and on stellamccartney.com from May 2020.
