Seven games is not much to go on, really, but the concern with Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is understandable, since so far, there has been scant evidence of the type of player he was in the minors and ample evidence of our worst fears. (By SNJeffBlair)

“Seven games,” Bichette repeated twice over the course of his answer, which was essentially: “he’ll figure it out.”

Oh yes. And being chosen to participate in the Home Run Derby at the All-Star Game, despite having hit all of eight career homers at the time … and limping into the break with one homer in 28 games, that one struck eight days before his appearance in the Derby. In fact, he’d had more position changes – third base to first – then he had homers between Aug. 22, 2019 and July 28, 2020. Curse? He did raise his batting average by 28 points, but the focus shifted toward the number of ground balls he hit, or the number of pop-ups. In the meantime, along came Bichette to take our breath away. Now, Nate Pearson and his 100 miles per hour have arrived. Cavan Biggio, not much fancied in the minor leagues, looks a polished, on-base guy.

SNJeffBlair It’s is alarming, as a v young player, how he’s heavier than last season.. Where’s the respect for Ross Atkins & the BlueJays org. who have, by all accounts, tried to figure it out w him. And more importantly why aren’t they getting that across to him Nutrition & fitness.

SNJeffBlair Maybe eat a salad once in a while. 21 years old and has the body of Cecil Fielder.

SNJeffBlair Kid is overweight, sure. But typical Toronto media making a case out of it. It's seven games. This is why Toronto kids don't want to play here. Media in other cities isn't like this.

SNJeffBlair This seems harsh ...

SNJeffBlair Maybe it’s because he’s 40 lbs overweight

FAN590 SNJeffBlair Kid needs to get fit, it'll catch up to him

SNJeffBlair Remember when Yelitch was rumoured to be offered for him two seasons ago I believe . What’s maybe more concerning is his lack of nutrition/fitness and not taking care of his body.

SNJeffBlair He’s got the body type that no matter what he does... he’ll never look jacked. Definitely a few pounds overweight so it’s not helping him. Puckett and Gwynn didn’t have great bodies either but pretty damn good. It’s mechanics / mental. He’ll work it out👍

SNJeffBlair Stop.

SNJeffBlair Hopefully Grandma isn’t in their bubble cooking for him!

SNJeffBlair Yea he is huge and fatter. He needs to smart up. He couldnt run like Babe Ruth

SNJeffBlair In true Toronto media fashion let’s start questioning a star player after a slow start. Seven games people. Chill the f out.

FAN590 SNJeffBlair For those claiming it's a weight issue obliviously didn't watch him play in AAA same size just different results at the plate

SNJeffBlair It’s time Vlad Jr. becomes a professional and starts hitting the gym and cleans up what he eats!!

SNJeffBlair No its not! The sportsmedia hyped him! Now he is in the big leaque and cant live up to the hype! Who's fault is that?

SNJeffBlair He will not last long in the bigs or baseball entirely, he is not set up for this he is a kid, and will always stay in that kid mindset, 2 years at best then bust.

SNJeffBlair There was too much media hype, who could handle this kind of pressure

SNJeffBlair The sample size isn't the problem. His size is the problem.

SNJeffBlair How many other players in any sport can show up that much overweight and get away with it. Not the only reason but basically had to switch positions because of it. Definitely not Vlad Senior.

SNJeffBlair His poor conditioning is limiting his progression.

SNJeffBlair I wouldn't take any lasting impressions out of any sports this year.

FAN590 SNJeffBlair He has looked positively awful at the plate so far. I've far from given up on him, but I'm concerned.

SNJeffBlair The weight gain can't help

SNJeffBlair Yeah I wouldn’t worry about him

SNJeffBlair 🙄
