Some are questioning the wisdom of a suggestion from B.C.’s attorney general that winter tires be made mandatory, particularly for drivers in areas that rarely see snow, such as the Lower Mainland and southern Vancouver Island.
“It’s certainly something I’ll be asking ICBC about following some of what I saw on the road over the last couple of days, and I’m sure a lot of British Columbians would nod along with that idea.” “We’ve been getting away and surviving without it all this time, and I think it’s just a knee-jerk emotional reaction from the attorney general. Hopefully calmer heads,” said Lewers, who is based in the Victoria area.
Municipal and private roads, such as ski hills, may have their own rules around winter tires that differ from provincial highway regulations.
Hilarious the post the Opinion of the Clueless to Science critiklthinking about the rubber compound in Winter tires and the actual Safety Benefit in temperatures of 7C and less. Winter tires should be Mandatory in the Lower Mainland.
I am getting around fine with my well used All Season tires but this may be their last winter. Having an All Wheel Drive SUV certainly helps. Slow down, drive more cautiously giving yourself more space to stop and know the topography of your area so you can plan your route!
Except your traction on winter tires is better than summer tires below 7C. I think we can pretty much guarantee that it will be wet and below 7C in the winter every year. Just do it and be safer.
Then driving in winter conditions should not be occurring. Loose your insurance coverage with at fault accidents.
No they shouldn’t. Learn to drive. I’ve never had them and never will.
