Parts of northern Cape Breton are expected to receive upwards of 35 centimetres of snow in a storm beginning Sunday night, Environment Canada says. - SaltWire Network file photoEnvironment Canada has issued a winter storm warning for northern Cape Breton, saying some areas could receive upwards of 35 centimetres of snow. The storm is expected to begin Sunday evening and continue through Monday afternoon. The highest accumulations are likely in the Cape Breton Highlands.
“Strong westerly winds gusting near 90 km/h will also develop after midnight tonight and continue until near noon Monday,” Environment Canada said in an alert Sunday morning. “These winds will cause reduced visibility in blowing snow over the Highlands. “Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions.”
Temperatures will be above freezing near sea level, so coastal areas are expected to receive between 10 and 15 centimetres of snow.
