The idea of the long-desired four-day work week has gained more attention as Canadians near the end of Month 3 in coronavirus lockdown, but don’t expect three-day weekends just yet, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Wednesday.
New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern floated the idea of a four-day work week in a Facebook live video a week ago. Similarly, in Canada tourism plays an important role in the economy, where it’s valued at $102 billion a year. Pre-COVID-19, it was the country’s fifth-largest sector, outpacing telecommunications and mining, and employing 1.8 million Canadians.
Studies have shown that a 4 day work week leads to more per-day productivity. If the 4 day gains offset the loss of an extra workday, then both employees and employers stand to benefit. Employers get more bang for their buck, and employees benefit from a more valuable currency.

Canada is already falling behind in productivity. It affects our competitiveness in the world market and domestically it makes everything more expensive. If you don't care that we will fall further behind or you are happy with what will in effect be pay cut, great.

I would do it. Sure, it may not be feasible for some industries, but there are differences now. If we are working the same hrs I don't see the big deal

Working 10 hours a day is stupid because study after study shows people are MORE productive when they work less. If you force people to work longer hours they get unproductive and lazy. Have a 4 day workweek at 7 hours a day

I’m all in. A few caveats of course ...1) IF I’m paid 20% less so should all cost of goods, every sector. 2) IF I’m paid the same, working equivalent hours over less days. Other than that, stays quo!
