OTTAWA – The government has a warning for those who unduly apply for both Employment Insurance and the new Canada Emergency Response Benefit : we will find you, and we will recoup the money.
But there are two ways to apply for the new benefit: either directly through the CRA’s website, or by applying for Employment Insurance — for those who are eligible — which will automatically be transferred into the CERB payments. That’s a no-no, says the federal government, and those who do will be expected to reimburse the overpayment.
This has been confusing for us who had applied for EI, as told. We were told we were REQUIRED to report to EI and answer their questions. If we received double, it was certainly not our doing and I resent the implication that I deliberately 'double dipped' Rant over❗

did they contact anyone when claim got sent in? I did mine yesterday but haven't heard. Did people get an email or phone call?
Well they promised $2000 a month, right? So less than minimum wage. Can you blame people for wanting to get the bare minimum to survive? Maybe pass all EI requests along to CERB instead and raise the payment from $2000 to $2500.
My grandson applied for EI on March 17th. Soon after government announced that EI claims after March 15 will be covered by CERB. So far he received nothing. My friend’s son, who barely earned $5000 and applied on Monday, got his money today.
How does one double dip? Not possible is it? If it is then the system is flawed

Well as of now no one has gotten anything.
Double dip? Everyone is waiting for their first chip.
