Harrowing drive in rental car has B.C. band calling for changes to province's winter tire rules

Last Updated Thursday, February 20, 2020 6:44PM PST

At the start of the band's tour on Feb. 6, there was a snowstorm in Kelowna and another vehicle collided with the rental van head-on. "Had we been warned, 'You might want winter tires in this situation,' we would’ve gotten winter tires," he said. "We left Hertz thinking that we had the minimum legal requirement, but what would keep us safe on the road."

Trevena said it's the responsibility of the consumer to decide which one would work best for their situation.

Wow this is crazy. I literally just rented a vehicle from Hertz and they made a point of telling me that the vehicle had winter tires on it. Why is it always some one else’s reponsibility to fix our own stupidity. C’mon people, you screwed up. Own it!!!

Can’t fix stupid

We use ice tires on all our main vehicles in winter. It’s common sense & they do make a difference!

Whining to the media about it is also a really good way for the band to get free PR
