A new climate-action plan says that regulations such as congestion tolls for the metro core, parking permits and building upgrades must be considered

Vancouver’s current goal is to halve carbon emissions from 2007 levels by 2030. At the moment, the city has only reduced its emissions by 9 per cent from 2007 levels.Vancouver can only meet its 2030 climate targets if it embraces new regulations such as a road toll for the metro core, parking permits for every resident car on the street and building upgrades to reduce the use of natural gas, a new climate-action report from staff says.

Some of the recommendations in the 371-page report are already controversial. One is the recommendation to introduce mobility pricing, such as tolls or a congestion charge, for the city’s central jobs area downtown and on Broadway by 2025. “When the mayors' council is ready for regional mobility pricing, transport pricing tested at the scale of our metro core could provide even greater confidence to make substantial changes across Metro Vancouver,” the report says.

At the moment, only about 10 per cent of the city requires resident-parking permits out of the 300,000 parking spots that account for a third of all road space on Vancouver streets.

It is not about comparing Canada to polluters but setting a sustainable lifestyle for when Canada becomes as big as the polluters that we are not that bad. Canada is empty but in this over crowded world, other people will be coming and we must be firmly sustainable, no other way

Considering how the people of Vancouver vote and support they obviously don't care about the extra money grabbing taxes they will have to pay. Just keep it in Vancouver.

this crap makes me laugh, the uneducated get so sucked into the media and government scams - the truth is Canada's emissions in 2016 reached 695 Mt CO2 eq, which made up 1.5% of global GHG emissions ..1.5% ! enough already a lot of us aren’t stupid enough to fall for this crap

Seems like B.C. needs another tax ... perhaps 90% this time ... can’t heat your home if you can’t afford too

- Vancouver’s 2030 climate targets are complete bs eco pandering that will financially hurt the middle class and the poor with no net environmental benefit at all. The decade + of carbon taxes in British Columbia is absolute proof of failure of Climate policies. ClimateFraud

Just have everyone stop exhaling.

Sounds a lot like the green new deal out of US. I wonder why? lol

Essential service workers and other workers are not expendable, we’re essential, and our lives matter. So it’s time to make mask mandatory and protect us all! It’s also rather sad that we have to demand this from a government that claims to be a friend to working people! Good thing it’s a private company so we got to hear about it. But are you telling me that staff at BC Liquor Stores, ICBC, BC Ferries Government Assistance Offices, Transit workers and other government agencies haven’t had cases? Or are they just not reported on the news?
