It was a conversation that only lasted a few minutes, but it left an impression – and a $500 tip for Ukrainian refugee Mariia Dibrova. Forget a basic 15 per cent, this was a 1,200 per cent tip.

MAHONE BAY, N.S. — It was a conversation that only lasted a few minutes, but it left an impression – and a $500 tip for Ukrainian refugee Mariia Dibrova.“She didn’t ask if it was hard or if I needed it or not, she just left money. Just like that,” Dibrova said, adding the gesture and the much-needed cash was “so overwhelming.”

“I’ve heard a lot that Canadians are very kind and polite and everything, but still you think ‘Oh that’s just a story.’ But it’s not, and now I’m spreading these stories.” “It’s been really great. They fit in really well and they’re just both beautiful and amazing humans.” “I had a small dream, maybe not that small that in 10, 20 years I would travel to live in Canada … it sounds so beautiful and nice,” she said. But the war made that dream happen much faster than she thought.
