The Canadian Armed Forces is reporting a dramatic increase in the number of military personnel who have contracted COVID-19 while working in long-term care facilities in Ontario and Quebec.

A total of 28 service members deployed in such facilities have tested positive for the respiratory illness, the military said in a statement Thursday. That compared with only five who had been found to have caught COVID-19 last week.

"Personnel will be rotated in as required in order to fill any gaps," Le Bouthillier added. "We remain flexible to be able to respond to a variety of tasks in support of civil authorities." The Forces says all service members deployed to such facilities have been equipped with personal protective equipment and training in how to use it.

I would have thought they were sending in medics and doctors with training and experience in infectious diseases, not soldiers without any specialized training. Otherwise, why bother? 🤔

The residents should have been hospitalized . I worked in LTC and we never had to take care of physically sick clients when we were not equipped. Also these soldiers got poor training to deal with quarantine protocol. Inexperience. Not their fault.

Sending people into a mass casualty situation with little experience or training is a recipe for virus transmission. Send in healthcare professionals. In future, pay PSWs, better, provide job security, and give them the best PPE to do the job!

Why the hell did they send the army in there? Why did they not hire more staff? God they are idiots. Canada is a shitshow. cdnpoli cdnmedia

They are all fine. They caught a virus? Maybe? CV tests positive for 5 different illnesses.

My Sister's unit was deployed to one of the harder hit homes in Montreal. No news from her or her husband as to whether she tested positive or not. Naturally, we're worried.

Twenty-eight soldiers test positive for COVID-19 after working in care homesThe Armed Forces now says it will publish a daily update, suggesting it expects more cases as service members continue to work in long-term care homes How many tested before is the real question? Or did they even bother More like more seniors have covid after solders went in for no real reason. Hey lets get more volunteers to go in to places they never go, were ppl are vulnerable to outside anything. Oh to late..... At this point its clear they are trying to kill elderly ppl. Pretending to help It shows how widespread the virus is, that all these homes developed cases all over Canada. Your life expectancy is only 30 months in a care home, you're there because we are too squeamish to let people choose medical aid in dying and go with dignity.
