Stories from July to December

In business since 1987, the Tim Horton’s location on Main Street in Bible Hill, located in between the Salmon River bridge and train overpass known as the ‘subway,’ closed due to slow business after the morning time and no chance to add a drive-thru since it’s on a flood plain.Editor’s Note: Some stories covered by the Truro News during the past year. Last week’s edition featured part 1, stories from January to June; this week covers July to December.

• Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau apologized for what he termed as “overt racism” during the national apology to the No. 2 Construction Battalion and their descendants, which took place at Truro’s TAAC grounds, a site the battalion trained at in preparation for their First World War service. Attempts to reach business owner Bimbo Canada were unsuccessful so the exact reason behind the closure was not revealed. It’s a disappointing development for many.• The Willow Street business was not alone as far as ending operations, with the Tim Horton’s location on Main Street in Bible Hill also closing up for good.

After mistakenly leaving a still relatively new paddle board on the Brule Shore coastline overnight, Armsworthy was disappointed but not surprised when it was gone the following morning – obviously dragged out by the tide. A shot-in-the-dark Facebook post did find results as Mark Gaudet – boating around the Flat River and Woods Islands area of P.E.I. - saw it floating and retrieved it.

• Popular restaurateur Crystal Blair announced she was coming back to the industry as part of a new diner in the Great Village Arts and Entertainment Centre. Large trees uprooted everywhere you turned, some falling, fortunately, to empty ground while others smashed whatever was in their landing spot – be it a house, garage or car. Power lines and poles were laid across major roads in the area, such as Prince and College streets, and people were just on day one of learning what life would be like without power for not just a day or two but, in some cases, weeks.

• One of the most popular Truro Jr. A. Bearcats in the team’s history was starting to make a name for himself in the retail world as dealer/co-owner of Home Hardware franchises in his home area of the north shore. “It’s stressful. It’s frustrating,” Tiffany Taylor, a mom in Salmon River, said about dealing with the situation and making sure herself that her children get to school. “You can call into work so much, but after a while you become unreliable. You lose money. You could lose your job.”• The Co-op Country Store operation in Bible Hill is shut down due to the building being deemed structurally unsound after being damaged by post-tropical storm Fiona.
