Trudeau defends new flights bringing Canadians home from across the globe

Last Updated Wednesday, April 1, 2020 3:47PM EDTOTTAWA -- Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says Canadians being flown home from abroad must subject themselves to "rigorous" and mandatory 14-day self-isolation to keep their fellow citizens safe.

Global Affairs Canada says the planes will arrive from Algeria, Ecuador, Senegal, Democratic Republic of Congo, Hungary and Spain. The government is reiterating that not all Canadians stranded abroad will be able to come back to Canada, and that those returning will be subjected to mandatory self-isolation.

Thanks JustinTrudeau. My retired parents spend winters in the Philippines (rural area). Manila has been on lock - no one in or out of the city for wks now, and PAL has canceled flights till at Apr 14. Their flight home isn't until Apr 25. I hope PAL doesn't cancel that too.

Let them back in and isolate them in government provided facilities (military base, hotel, old school) for the 14 day mandatory period just like they did to people returning from cruise ships. The problem is trusting them to go straight home when airports are clearly a petri dish

If they are not dual citizens fine, if they are, stay put in your other country as they are just Canadians of convenience look for an ICU bed if they get sick

Read Timothy E Wilson article in National Observer. Describes TOTAL lack of any process at Pearson related to his flight in on March 29th. Now complete plane full of people walk straight through. Totally unacceptable & needs much better support from ministers to FIX IT 'NOW' !!

it's been a month since we have been hearing that it's your last chance to come back.... but still coming everyday

I don’t believe for one nanosecond that a fraction of these people are “Canadian”. They can stay where they are until the crisis is over.

Then you bring them to live in isolation at your resident to make sure they abide by your law.

As long as these passangers are paying for the full.cost of these flights then ok. Put make sure they stay the fck home when they get here. But we know some of them won't...

Unless they have been away since befor the Pandemic started then they should have known better !

There are many reasons why some Canadians are still coming home and the gov (any gov) would be criticized if they didn't. Harder to look after in another country. These are extraordinary times. Energy lost on negativity when helping your neighbours and your family is your job.

And then we wonder why we are seeing huge spikes of cases around Canada... logic. KEEP THEM THERE WE DON'T NEED THEM.

And if we catch 1 of these asses out side there quarantine do we have the right to shoot them ..

Who are these people? How long have they been away? Are they coming back just to take advantage of our health care system i.e. they might be Canadian in name but haven't lived here in years? The same bunch who think they should vote in our elections.

When is he going to stop hiding and come out and be a leader. His wife has been cleared for a week now and he was not living in same place as her while she was in quarentine. Why is he still hiding?

More of our money wasted. Sock boy will do anything for votes.
