Toronto FC coach Javier Perez has a Ph.D, so he’s smart enough to know that he’s in a very tough situation.

And even if TFC manages to defeat its 401 Derby rivals and win the Voyageurs Cup and the right to take part in the 2022 Concacaf Champions League tournament, it’s still likely Perez won’t be back as the Toronto manager.

When asked about the possibility of Bradley coming to TFC, the Toronto Sun was issued this statement: “We have a final to play on Sunday and that’s the club’s sole focus.”Still, you have to feel for Perez. Undoubtedly he has heard the Bradley rumours. And certainly there has been no official word from the TFC brass that he is in the running to return as the head man next year — even though he deserves some consideration.

More importantly, Perez led TFC into Sunday’s Canadian Championship final at Saputo Stadium with victories of CPL clubs York United and Pacific FC. “I don’t want us to look back, I want us to look forward,” Perez said when asked about the team’s struggles this year. “And we have now 48 hours, we have to be extremely focused. And I don’t want to think is the magic potion to fix the season.”

“I think it’s going to be a tight, close game,” Perez added. “We play them on their home field, but I think we have the tools as well to hurt them. And I think it’s going to be a very similar game to the last one we played here. We kind of know what to expect from each other. We know very well the players.
