Surfers in the U.S. have been playing cat-and-mouse with authorities as they sneak into the water.

For Ray Booth, surfing is more than just a sport. It's a passion, a way of life, a therapy. Maybe even an obsession.

In Hawaii, surfers have had it a little easier, with authorities shutting down beaches to sunbathers on most of the state's islands but allowing surfers and swimmers into the water as long as they practice social distancing. "It sounds silly but you almost have withdrawals if you don't go, you get grumpy," says Booth, who has been surfing since before he was old enough to drive.

Surfers who violate Gov. Gavin Newsom's beach-closure order face $1,000 citations and possibly a year in jail, but most say they've gotten off with a warning so far.

Anything that allows physical distancing should be permitted. Banning surfing, golf etc is likely a case of jealous individuals wanting to deny others fun during a scary time because if they suffer then all should suffer is probably part of their mindset.

Rule 1: Never let them know about Rule 2. Rule 2: There are no rules.

By all means surf alone. Jog alone, walk alone, go outside and breathe fresh air alone. Keep your distance. If people want to cower at home, let them. Life must go on.

On one hand I don’t see a problem with surfing, on the other if something happens and emergency services need to respond...

Since we arent supposed to travel unless ya live on the beach I'd say stay the heck outta the water.
