Thousands of demonstrators representing organized labor marched in South Korea’s capital on Saturday denouncing government attempts to force thousands of striking truckers back to work after they walked out in a dispute over the price of freight.

There were no immediate reports of injuries or major clashes from the protests near the National Assembly in Seoul. The marchers, mostly members of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions, accused President Yoon Suk Yeol’s conservative government of labor oppression and ignoring what they described as the truckers’ harsh work conditions and financial struggles, worsened further by rising fuel costs.

While the minimum fares are currently applied to shipping containers and cement, the strikers also call for the benefits to be expanded to other cargo. That would include oil and chemical tankers, steel and automobile carriers and package delivery trucks under the broader agreement. A failure to comply without “justifiable reason” is punishable by up to three years in jail or a maximum fine of 30 million won . Critics say the law infringes on constitutional rights because it doesn’t clearly define what qualifies as acceptable conditions for a strike.

I wonder if they have an “Emergency Act “

Those truckers can go easily to North Korea. ¿What they are waiting for?

Take a notice JustinTrudeau. You will face truckers protests soon.

Everyone who thinks they have equal right to protest against the government take two steps forward. Not so fast Canada. You will be remiss to cross Justin Castreau and his loyal pangolin Holdameet Singh.

Not 'those' truckers. These people are out to support a strike action. Your headline is somewhat misleading

Reading these comments makes me realize...ANY reason to protest will clearly be supported by Canadians as long as it is not about bodily autonomy.

I wonder if Doug Ford has a cousin working in government, in South Korea?

These real truckers walked out in a dispute over the price of freight. Nothing to do with public health measures that would protect the citizens of the country.

Release the Emergencies act!!!

This shows that people have had enough of totalitarian gov't around the globe. Canada is no exception.

Send in stompy the horse 😂

I’ve seen some click-bait titles before, but this is just next level. That said, this comment section is about to be hilarious.

Sorry anti-vaxxers, this story isn't about 'Freedumb' but something more basic - the price of freight.

honkhonk

But here in Canada, MSM calls truckers 'Insurrectionists', 'Terrorists' ... etc... Remember boys and girls, it has to start somewhere...

Justin Trudeau big mad

Trudeau is probably on the phone to the South Korean president about how they should invoke wartime measures

The world really is not happy with everything that is going on. I’m glad to see more and more civil disobedience taking place. People should not be afraid of their governments, governments should be afraid of their people. Keep fighting the good fight.

Uh oh here comes the freedom group thinking it’s for them
