Thief berated mom for leaving kid in car he stole: police

The woman went into a grocery store about 15 feet from the car Saturday, leaving her 4-year-old child inside with the engine running and the vehicle unlocked, said Beaverton police spokesman Officer Matt Henderson.

Once the thief realized the toddler was in the backseat, he drove back, berated the woman for leaving her child unattended, told the woman to take the child and drove away in the stolen vehicle. Henderson said the woman did nothing wrong and was within sight and sound of the child. He said the incident served as a "good reminder to take extra precaution" with children.

The mother was wrong on many levels. It was unacceptable

I was guilty of this once. Pumped gas car shut off ran inside and paid but never left the keys in. Never took my eyes off the car and the door was locked

He was kind of right having ur child in the vehicle unattended while u run into the store is not wrong necessarily. Doing so in a hot day, for example, is unforgivable...but leaving the car running while u run into a grocery store WITH A TODDLER IN THE BACKSEAT is beyond words
