Toronto's police chief said there is “a whole lot” he wants to say about the death of Regis Korchinski-Paquet, who fell from a 24th-floor balcony Wednesday evening, but that he can't now that the province’s police watchdog has been called in to investigate.

“When you’re responsible for community safety, one of the worst things that you have is that vacuum effect: It’s when you have a strong idea of what’s gone on and you want an opportunity to present to the public to the best of your ability, but you can’t,” Toronto Police Chief Mark Saunders said at a news conference Friday.

“The call was for assaults and knives and were stated by at least two of the three people who called,” he said. Regis then asked to go inside her apartment and was followed in by several officers, according to Singh. Singh said Regis’ mother had previously made a statement on social media that implied police had thrown her daughter from the balcony Wednesday night.

“This will bring additional transparency to the process and enhance public confidence,” the statement said. The SIU said in a release issued Friday afternoon that it is continuing to “make progress” in its investigation into the events leading up to Korchinski-Paquet’s death but can’t “make any further comment with respect to what happened” at this point.

So the family lawyer explains 'at the time certain statements were made..., the family had a lot of emotion and grief and were mourning the loss of their daughter.” Those statements remain unretracted and are feathers in the wind generating a false narrative.

Out of respect can you please at least not say 'who fell from balcony' when there are numerous reports and testimonies out there that she was pushed and killed?! At least be neutral!..
