Singh speaks during the COVID-19 Pandemic Committee in the House of Commons on May 27, 2020
So listen up, Mr. Singh, for what I’m about to say will undoubtedly hurt: it’s time for your defective NDP to be put down on account of the mercy rule. There is simply no chance the NDP will ever get back in the game called Canadian democracy. Watching the NDP leader take questions in the wake of his bamboozling was even worse. Trudeau is hiding behind “jurisdiction” on the question of care homes, Singh thundered as he threw a blanket over Parliament. “We have many tools to push the government,” Singh argued to reporters, perhaps not realizing he had just thrown away his best and most effective tool. Quick, somebody explain ‘balance of power’ to the man who should be bending Justin Trudeau over a barrel, not vice versa.
It’s hard to believe the party that stormed to the role of Official Opposition in 2011 is already on death’s door, but such is the NDP’s tale of woe since that time.
one less party bent on bankrupting Canada? Awww... Pity... hah! Bye.
Gotta love the coded racism at the start of this article. ‘Don’t know is Singh ever played baseball or watched Old Yeller’ Stage Whisper: because he’s brown
Wait, the former Communications Director of PM Stephen “Prorogue-that-Parliament” Harper is lecturing the NDP about...wait for it...”responsible government.” ROFL
Try again.
LOL, what? the NDP is the only party that has been fighting to protect the lives of people during this pandemic. CERB, support for students, etc. you're intentionally ignoring all the good the NDP are doing
doubt it
most canadians dont give a fuck about parliament and are more concerned with sick leave and rent, which, you know, the NDP are talking about. keep trying this tired line tho
This has been consistently said for decades. We are still here.
Who care
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. No.
Jagmeet singh will run that party to the ground and declare victory. I for one welcome the working class to the conservative coalition. The NDP abandoned you, the Tories will fight for you
“DEMOCRACY IS AN ESSENTIAL SERVICE!” - we could withdraw all our cash from the big 5 banks on CanadaDay ? they may not care now! maybe they’ll listen after a bank run!! CantStopUsAll
acoyne In the middle of the most critical national crisis since WWII, we are shutting down the most important decision-making body in the country. Yep, makes sense to me.
He traded parliament for a 'Virtue Signal' he got nothing in return. Sick days are a provincial jurisdiction, Trudeau can do nothing, but ask the Premiers to implement. He thinks he won something for labour, Trudeau was heard giggling when he agreed to it. Singh is an idiot.
acoyne Well Andrew bye, your job is still safe at the anti Trudeau, Tory rag, Maclean’s.
IM ABSOLUTELY LIVID w/THE NDP!! A TRADE FOR *THE PEOPLE'* PARLIAMENTARY SYSTM FOR SOMETHING THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED SOON ANYWAY?! THIS IS *OUR GOV*& Trudeau HAS NO RIGHT TO CHANGE IT NOW! Canada IS OPENING, OUR PARL MUST OPEN FULLTIME! NOW IS THE MOST CRITICAL TIME EVER!!
acoyne Okay boomer
acoyne Maybe he just had something better to do for the summer.
What a load of rot! agmeet Singh & the NDP have done plenty for Canadians during the pandemic, using what leverage they have to get help for Canadians who need it the most. I can't think of a single thing the 'official' opposition has done to help those people. Shame on U.
Real_Dr_Roy Time for Rachel Notley to abandon the eternal opposition benches in Alberta and reinvent the Federal NDP into a viable competitor for the liberals.
See this is the part that Harper failed miserably at. Working with others. What you call laying down I'd call letting loose the reins. When it matters. When people are focused on what the government does next....then the NDP will have a huge ask.
Are Cons getting scared of the NDP?
The libs have the best of both worlds; they can tilt right or left and still win the day.
Doesn't Parliament usually take a break for the summer? The only difference this year is that the NDP got Canadians paid sick leave.
I’m only 32 and I’ve read an “end of the NDP” article probably 50 times.
I’d argue the opposite. The NDP are the only party with influence over this minority government.
acoyne Really... irrelevant....was just thinking that about the Conservatives
acoyne adamlevine NDPAnne So your entire Caucus approved your demise 🤔
Final chapter written by their leaders.
acoyne the NDP was irrelevant before, this just proves the point! NDP is a footnote.
acoyne The House always rises in Summer.
How much fecken more could the NDP have done in this hung OurCommons? theJagmeetSingh forced JustinTrudeau to implement key planks of ndp npd social policies. What has CPC_HQ done in parl43? bruce_stanton
Oh please. Every single good thing that has come out of this Parliament happened because the NDP made it happen (often after the government initially said that there was no way that it could possibly happen). What exactly has MacDougall's party achieved?
Oh, get over yourself AGMacDougall . I don't agree with this suspension of Parliament until Setember either. But the NDP isn't going anywhere. Worry more about the losers that comprise your party's 'leadership' 'race,' the best kept secret in cdnpoli . CPC_HQ cpcldr
That is how democracy works. Stephen Harper in his recent past as Conservative leader did not consult anyone. He just did it. That was not right. Most right wing did not complain. Why now?
Exactly
