TORONTO -- Vancouver-based Teck Resources Ltd.

has announced that it is withdrawing the regulatory application for a major Alberta oilsands project that was up for approval by the federal government this week.

Alberta Premier Jason Kenney said on Twitter Sunday night that the withdrawal of the application was “devastating news for the Canadian economy. Earlier this month, the Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment called for the government to not dismiss community concerns regarding potential increases in cancer rates, food contamination and pollution in a letter signed by 175 health experts.

Canada is one of the worst polluters per capita in the G20, according to a November report from Climate Transparency. And the province with the highest emissions in the country is Alberta. On Friday, Teck Resources released their fourth quarter results for 2019, which showed disappointing returns compared to their 2018 numbers.

One third(the worker)produce the wealth of this country. One third work for the government in one way or another. One third live off the government through various programs. It can’t continue this imbalance.

People complained about the loss of jobs and the impact on the economy when the coal and asbestos mines started closing. Alberta has mountains and rivers, maybe it's time to look ahead to hydropower instead of backwards to a resource with dwindling demand.

Which company in their right mind would want to deal with FNs, this federal government, left-wing MSM and the extreme environmentalists !

You can Thank the socialist MSM in Canada whom have been hijacked by extreme left-wing environmentalists!

They will just invest in another country. They make alot more money outside Canada. Investment is leaving our country because it's too difficult to do business here. That's just reality .

With respect of course......

Great news

CTVNationalNews It’s my understanding that only 10% of the oil sands in Alberta and Saskatchewan are soft enough to build open pit mines. So why are we not building more SAG D operations? Cleaner and still get the job done!

News flash indigenous peoples, if you don’t guickly stand up for these projects, loudly and proudly, the only wealth you will EVER see is government handouts for another generation...... from a government with no tax base from which to get that money. You’re your own worst enemy

But Jason you promised!!!

Still waiting to hear all of this indigenous power start speaking up. Blockades , crickets..... pipeline shutdown, crickets..... major oil project cancelled, crickets. And I’m supposed to believe most of the bands were in favour of it?

Until Alberta wipes out equalization payments to Quebec and others nothing will change. So best thing for Alberta is more short term pain. No income means no equalization. Run the useless Liberals out of Govt as they have destroyed this country economically.

This is only the beginning, this country lacks leadership and vision at the top . The Native Protest have cost us jobs and millions of dollars . Now they have cost the Indigenous people of Ft M area another opportunity that they needed and wanted.

I already tossed the Canadian flag I had in the garbage. Why stay in this shitty broken country? fucktrudeau

Lol the ceo's statement. Empty rhetoric that basically says, 'this area does not want to be polluted and thus we don't want to do business' Yeah, exactly. Invest in renewable energies, put money where its more sustainable

not the environment, Teck is bleeding money, coal is done as is zinc, copper, gold. They spent billions on their SA copper mine, and copper has dropped off a cliff. Oil is now tumbling, what happens when you put a banker in charge of mining co. and have China as sole customer..

What a loss for Canada

Thats because the rest of Canada is tired of hearing all the whining and bitching that they want to seperate and now something went wrong and look at them now the dweebs

Some good news!

Why is Canada the only country in the world that deliberately attacks and tries to destroy its own energy industry.

The world understands that climate change is real and and not a hoax which requires immediate action like 10 yrs ago.

Hoping Trudeau goes for a walk in the snow on Friday evening and then Feb 29th says: 'It was all clear that I was going to leave when I went to sleep,'

Be sure to thank the Ontario and Quebec voters that put these ...... in power again.

Final nail in Trudeau’s coffin

kinsellawarren says that PMO directed Teck to withdraw as Liberal Caucus was in revolt. This makes this another example of Trudeau incompetence. RuleOfLaw

That’s too bad. Friends of mine were hoping this would happen.

JustinTrudeau would you mind doing somthing this week maybe? Not only are you ruining the country now but also for my children's future country. Try drama teaching again and then work your way back up!!!!!
