Surrey Police Service officer facing breach-of-trust investigation

The cop, who was hired back in May by the service that’s set to replace the RCMP in Surrey, was arrested by Mounties Tuesday and released on conditions as the investigation continues.

Ian MacDonald, a spokesman for the Surrey Police Service, said the force is releasing the information now “in the interest of transparency.” “The SPS officer is facing a charge for an alleged breach of trust,” said MacDonald. “However, the charge has not yet been approved by B.C. Prosecution Service.”The officer in question has just over a year of policing experience.

Chief Const. Norm Lipinski has suspended the officer with pay pending the outcome of the investigation, which is being handled by Surrey RCMP.Our in-depth journalism is possible thanks to the support of our subscribers.
