'Strong evidence' mothers can transmit virus to newborns

PARIS -- There is "strong evidence" that COVID-19-positive mothers can pass the virus on to their unborn infants, scientists said Thursday, in findings that could affect how pregnant women are shielded during the pandemic.

They also identified specific COVID-19 antibodies in the umbilical cords of several pregnant women as well as in milk specimens. The World Health Organization said last month that new mothers infected with COVID-19 should continue breastfeeding. Fenizia said that the women studied were all in their third trimester, given the timeframe of Italy's epidemic, adding that more research is currently under way among COVID-19-positive women in the early stages of pregnancy.

Whoever wrote this is scientifically illiterate. The study is about in-utero transmission, not about transmission from mothers to newborns after birth. It identifies that though there's virus from present in the unborn baby's environment, none of the babies born had Covid-19

So, the tests and research done in China at the 'start' of this get thrown out because newborns weren't getting it from their mothers? It's already been proven that this doesn't happen, now you're just making pregnant women's lives worse in this. As if it hasn't been hard enough
