This happens here occasionally so it's not automatically climate change. Still though, people died. That's more of a rarity here. More research is needed.

Instead of paving over the greenbelt it’s time to invest in actually needed infrastructure: - Buried power lines ⚡️ - Replant lost trees 🌳

I lived through the aftermath of a derecho in Washington DC about a decade ago. It took 3 weeks for the electrical system in VA, MD and DC to fully recover; crews were called in from Ontario. I was without power for 10 days. This will likely not be a fast fix.
