Showdown between Mahomes and Allen overshadowed by NFL's overtime rules

NFL fans were treated to an instant classic to close out the divisional-round schedule as Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen provided the backdrop for the game of the year.

Unfortunately, the duel between Mahomes and Allen was overshadowed by the fact that the Bills quarterback sat on the bench and did not get the chance to touch the ball in overtime. Since the Chiefs won the coin toss and scored, Buffalo's season was over and many fans were left frustrated with the fact that Allen couldn't respond.

The NFL has had many great rivalries over the years from Terry Bradshaw vs. Roger Staubach, Terry Bradshaw vs. Roger Staubach, Steve Young vs. Troy Aikman and of course, the legendary battles between Tom Brady and Peyton Manning.

You asked this on Jan 22. I appreciate that the coin toss is not the biggest issue. Both teams should have an offensive possession. But it starts with the crazy notion that the coin toss decides anything. It should be merit based. You should have to earn the right to choose.
