Mark Shapiro believes pending free agents Robbie Ray and Marcus Semien have earned the right to explore the market and the Blue Jays will have to be patient and explore alternatives in case they don't return.

have earned the right to explore the free-agent market, and fans should give them time to make their decisions.

"I appreciate that and understand that they're getting a full understanding of the alternatives that are out there. So, that's not going to be quick. Or, maybe it will be quick in one of the cases and we're aligned and they want to stay here. But I think that's unlikely, so it's going to require patience, it's going require us exploring alternatives as well, in case they don't come here for a variety of reasons.

"I don't think third base is his prototypical position, but again he's a part of a championship team, we were encouraged by his performance last year and if he continues to get stronger and can drive the ball even a little more, he's got a chance to be an everyday player," Shapiro said. "They're great prospects that we're excited about, but when it comes to prospects ... my answer to you would be I'm extremely excited about both of those guys, they're extremely young and doing some really impressive things throughout the landscape of the entire minor leagues," he said."When they're ready to be in the conversation for Toronto, you'll know it.

Like you did with Edwin?

I have never ever heard of that kind of statement about earned their right…I doubt they come back

Sign hitting trade for pitching

Match or pay more than what other teams may offer, two players you need to get back. Plus any other player you can get to I prove the team

Code for they ain’t coming back

Interpretation: Rogers won't give me the money to sign them . . . . .

Well that's that... we all know what this means...

So basically they’ve already decided to low ball them and accept that they’re not coming back

Translation: See yeah. We are way too cheap to keep you guy's. Its all about the bottom line after-all.

Neither will duplicate the season they just had. Still good but no need to overpay. Let someone else do that. I do like Semien in the lineup to help make it a force in the East to compete with Yanks and Sox. I would try to sign him and play wait and see on Ray

Interpretation; MLSE won't give me the money to sign them . . . .

At least Robbie needs to come back we need pitchers desperately

Correct. A more balanced lineup is a better idea.

bye bye Ray and Semien. *sigh* this is a mistake

Marner staying patient amid early offensive drought - TSN.caMitch Marner has little to say about his lack of offensive production. It wouldn’t make much difference if he did. Marner knows he’s being judged on results, and, so far, those haven’t come. The Maple Leafs are four games into their season and Marner has just one assist, despite top-line minutes and power-play time. Ya he just got back his stat padder. Matthews wont be held off the score sheet for long, so by default, 16 will get points. Imagine a report like this by TSN on a player on Van Wpg or cgy early? This drought started last playoffs...
