Scheer pressed on abortion debate on campaign trail

Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer ’s first stop on the second day of the federal election campaign was preoccupied by the ongoing abortion debate that has plagued the Tories for the past several weeks.

In the video, Willson say she’s been “passionate about advancing the pro-life cause for many years.”"We believe that there are two parts involved in advancing pro-life legislation: the number one is prayer and there’s action. We believe in prayer not only for ending abortion in general but also for the specific woman who in this moment might be considering abortion," she said in the video.

Scheer was asked whether he would allow Willson to bring forward legislation on anti-abortion if she earns a seat in the House of Commons."We have always made it very clear that we will not support re-opening this issue,” he said. “As prime minister I will oppose and vote against any measure that does attempt to do that.”

He went on to criticize Bennett and Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau for trying to put forward a message that was “completely false.”"It’s no surprise because her leader has been lying about issues for quite some time now," he added.Willson also took questions from reporters. She said she was "grateful" that her leader allows for free votes but didn’t confirm whether she’d bring forward legislation on the issue.

"I’ve never hidden behind the fact that I’m pro-life," she said. "I’m planning to focus on issues I’m hearing about at the door. I’ve been knocking on door for a year-and-a-half in the community. We’ve been building a great momentum."

Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau was pressed on the abortion debate issue in a subsequent appearance in Victoria, B.C., reinstating his "pro-choice" position."That is my core conviction and that’s how actually I’ve led the government over the last four years and ensured that every single candidate running for the Liberal Party agrees that defending women’s rights, and women’s right to choose, is unequivocal for the Liberal Party."

"[Women] need to know that their leaders will be there to defend their rights. That is something that I’ve made clear on and I think it’s up to Canadians whether or not other leaders have been equally clear."Scheer will face off against NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh and Green Party Leader Elizabeth May tonight in a debate hosted by Maclean’s and Citytv. Trudeau has declined the invitation.

The liberal propaganda machine in fine form already. Disgusting If he's smart he won't take the bait, seems an increasing element within society can do little more than lay bait & hope to be triggered tho they'll protest inequity either way NeverScheer FordsBestFriend In other news the media union continues to desperately try and get the liberals re-elected sickening

Del Mastro? Didnt he commit vehicle fraud in Peterborough at one time? And wasnt he a PC riding candidate? His mother should have had an abortion or swollowed, one or the other Why not Trudeau CTV? Stop being hypocrites. '[Trudeau] notes that he is personally very opposed to abortion...” How is Andrew any different than Justin, who notes that he is personally very opposed to abortion, but still believes nobody can tell a woman what she should do with her body.

Because they know he is Catholic. Scheer won the debate. The other two need to learn some manners. Zzzzzzz Scheer's colleague said that the number one thing she was doing to combat abortion is prayer. It should be sex ed and easy access to contraception. I thought that kids neck was broken when I first looked

CTV making up 💩. abortion is is a liberal and media manufactured issue in the campaign. Meeting Scheer, I'd probably have the same reaction as that toddler in the middle. What the heck is he doing with that little girl in a nursery class.. they don’t vote. This explains why WeakAndy is investing in maternity leave... once he bans abortions, women will be having lots and lots of kids.🤷‍♂️

In other news the media union continues to desperately try and get the liberal party re-elected What abortion debate? It's a non issue. Lieberals are really desperate. Hey look it’s AndrewScheer Captain of TeamWhiteSupremacy who wants to roll back a women’s right to choose among other draconian socially conservative wet dream fantasies – he must NOT be allowed to become our next PrimeMinister

Trudeau said that he is personally very opposed to abortion. With his truth telling ability or lack of, can he be trusted to not reopen the debate? TrudeauMustgo If you want to talk abortion ask which party has the courage to actually make it law instead of simply using it to try and manipulate voters . So far none of the parties have shown any.

The media needs to clean up their language. Let us call it the 'right to choose' debate. Just a stupid, diversionary tactic by liberal_party and liberal-loving media types. Move on.

Scheer and Trudeau agree: Feds should not intervene in Quebec’s religious symbols banQuebec's Bill 21 was a hot topic on Day 1 of the federal election campaign, with Scheer and Trudeau agreeing the federal government should not intervene. Can you say 'Hot Potato'. BC is California, Alberta is Texas, Ontario is New York and I swear Quebec is pulling for Alabama style It's a provincial law. It is up to the Quebec legislature or the Supreme Court to overturn it. Even if the Federal government could overturn the bill, or force the provincial government to do so, such interference would only respark the separatist movement.
