Raptors snub home fans, Kawhi Leonard during interminable opening night celebrations Globe_Sports

While not invisible, Leonard was noticeably de-emphasized in the video. There were certain unavoidable inclusions – ‘the Shot’ against Philadelphia; the moment of final victory. Had they any sense, special mention would have been made of Leonard during the ceremony. Surely the crowd wanted the chance to fete him, if only just this once.Instead, it was left to Kyle Lowry to utter Leonard’s name, and only as he rattled off a laundry list of absent roster members.

Now I’m afraid we’ll have to talk about the rings. I don’t want to, either, but that’s how it has to be.Without releasing a dollar amount, the Raptors were keen that everyone know these rings are the most opulent championship bauble ever made. The result of that ambition is a piece of jewellery that would’ve made Louis XIV go purple with embarrassment. The ring looks like a finger-mounted Fabergé egg – golden, garish and buckshot with dozens of diamonds.

Someone asked Norman Powell what he’d be doing with his ring. Powell said he planned to take it to his house in Las Vegas and display it with his other trophies.Mr. Powell, we have your home-insurance provider on the phone. He’d like to talk about a sudden, enormous increase in your deductible. There was a ring girl handing the jewellery to suited men who then handed over the rings to recipients – a nice, anachronistic touch. This was beginning to feel like an Academy Awards ceremony back before someone figured out that you stage a show for the viewers, not the participants. The players had to run a plutocrat gauntlet to get their prize – league boss to MLSE boss to Telecom Boss #1 and Telecom Boss #2. This involved more painfully awkward man-hugging than your typical AA meeting.

Globe_Sports This is embarrassing journalism

Globe_Sports Expected..not surprised gaudy classless rings go hand in hand with the players lol

Globe_Sports Cathal strikes again.

Globe_Sports Who approved the publishing of this article

Globe_Sports Globe and Mail, you dont care about integrity? Is this how far you've fallen?

Globe_Sports Worst article. Garbage. Click-bait. UNINFORMED. Raptors honoured Leonard just fine - of course they played tribute to the players actually present at the ceremony.

Globe_Sports I watched the entire thing and I didn’t feel slighted in the least.

Globe_Sports Truly the worst article I’ve ever read. Beyond out of touch. Assign Eeyore to a new beat please.

Globe_Sports Somebody fire this dude, that article sucked!

Globe_Sports I was there tonight. The Globe should be embarrassed publishing this article. Atrocious.

Globe_Sports I'm sure they'll celebrate Leonard when he returns to Toronto!

Globe_Sports I opened the article saw the name of the author, and prepared myself for a usual misguided opinion. Not dissapointed. This is the guy who wrote that Zinedine Zidane was justified in headbutting Materazzi in the WC final!!

Globe_Sports World champions? Who'd they beat after the NBA Championships?

Globe_Sports Eesh, what a terrible article.

Globe_Sports Globe couldnt have fun at a carnival. Scheer supporters.

Globe_Sports Seeing those fat greedy pigs from BellCanada & RogersCable get rings made me want to puke Raptors

Globe_Sports Who hurt you?

Globe_Sports You must be fun at parties. 😂

Globe_Sports Seriously? 🙄

Globe_Sports I'm trying to figure out the point of this dumbass article, but having a tough time. Can anyone help me out?

Globe_Sports Oh god

Globe_Sports You must be a Leafs fan. This is what champions do. Raptors Where you last season?
