Randall Denley: Poor campaigns matter, as Ontario's Liberals and NDP are discovering too late

Del Duca is fond of repeating the truism that governing involves making choices, but it doesn’t seem to be his strong suit. His party has an affordability plan, which is a good idea, but it has 19 points. Did the Liberals really need to promise a tax break on snow tires and the removal of provincial sales tax on meals under $20? These are not exactly the kind of changes that will drive people to support them.

It’s Del Duca’s first campaign as leader, and quite likely his last, but Horwath doesn’t have the excuse of inexperience. She also lacked the discipline to pick two or three things that define her party. The NDP’s plan to double disability and welfare payments, although stolen from the Greens, would have been her best way to argue that she has compassion and Ford does not.

Its not their poor “campaigns” that are the problem. Del duca literally looks like a Canadian South Park character sponsored by papa Klaus.

All Ford needed to win was to pull a Biden, hide in the basement, not provide a target to punch at. And he did that. The other two parties started swinging at each other, when the PCs didn't show up.
