OTTAWA -- The litany of racial slurs inserted into the comments section of an online Conservative leadership debate Wednesday was not surprising, candidate Leslyn Lewis said the next day.
"The racist comments during last night's debate which were directed at me, Black people and Jewish people were sadly not surprising," she said in a statement Thursday. "We are thankful to the hundreds of members in the chat who alerted us to these terrible comments and demanded swift action, which we took," he said.
The racist comments weren't mentioned by the candidates or moderator during the event, but screenshots of them circulated online after they were removed. But Lewis' campaign said though the team has held hundreds of online sessions, they've only experienced a single other instance of someone attempting to disrupt the event, and in that one, the commentator was attacking Lewis for her gender.

Why politicians believe it makes them look good when they make remarks about competitors that are racist or down right nasty is beyond me. It’s like they see it happening south of our border so they think to do it here. I will not vote for someone who doesn’t show respect.

Compared to the other contenders, she appears to me to be the reasonable one. Would it not be great that she would slide up the middle. That might just be the jolt the CPC needs.
Not a fan of Lewis, too much religion, too weak on climate (I'm a Conservative voter). But attacking people based on their race, ethnicity, or religion & failing to see our common humanity, is a cancer on our society, unfortunately magnified by the anonymity of the internet.
