Students at John Abbott College protested against Bill 96 earlier this month for its impact on access to English-language CEGEPs.
Dissent over Bill 96 had escalated in recent weeks with thousands holding protests, denouncing the bill for impeding on the rights of anglophones, allophones and Indigenous communities. It also caps the number of students who can attend English-language colleges, known as CEGEPs, and increases the amount of French courses students at the colleges must take. Two opposition parties voted against the law. The Parti Québécois said the legislation did not go far enough in protecting the French language in Quebec, while Quebec Liberal Party Leader Dominique Anglade denounced the bill's use of the notwithstanding clause, saying it goes too far.
Québec Solidaire voted in favour, despite expressing unease about the clause in the bill which calls on refugees to learn French within six months of arrival, after which they can no longer access services in another language.
Also !! When is the next election in Quebec ? Because Legault must go!!!
Still don’t understand how this is legal ? It infringes on our right to have access to healthcare .. language shouldn’t be a barrier no matter where you are in CANADA 🇨🇦!!
I don’t get Quebec at all. How is the French language so fragile? I remember moving to Quebec eager to immerse myself and become fluent in French. But I was shunned by my lack of fluency . People would be rude because I spoke broken French .
Ya lego is only a brick in that set of blocks he thinks he can do what he wants
Most English Canadians can only speak English, you can see it when you see English Canadian tourists in South America, Mexico, France and all French speaking African countries. A big plus. More and more French Canadians now speak 3 languages. French, English and Spanish (related)
A.I. Translators are going to solve this problem for our law courts and legislative assemblies very soon. We are all about to become functionally multilingual
Comment dit-on “Economic Destruction Act of 2022” en francais?
Don’t believe this is a good example of bilingualism?
I am not a fan of this Bill at all... i am a French Canadian but i ultimately believe the World should speak one or two languages. If english it is, then english it is...
Just separate already! Let’s get this over with!
Pièce of shit. 50/50 He vas probably comprendre this trou of ass
With many small businesses in Montreal run by 'anglophones' (who do already speak French) I won't be surprised if they stop hiring francophone Quebecers in the fear of them snitching to the language police, which is encouraged in this bill.
Wow, do Quebecers ever have a big chip on their shoulders, it's time for Canada to say goodbye to them once and for all. Taking advantage of others because they feel threatened by language, saying they need this bill to live just isn't right.
The whole country has to be bilingual but Quebec gets to dictate what language we speak in Quebec. Doesn’t seem fair. Why are they doing it? I guess they want to control which immigrants they get.
Give it up ridiculous
Is QC can survive without English? Because most businessmen who lives in Quebec, they don’t speak French.
☠️☠️☠️ Racisme all over QC ☠️☠️☠️☠️
If anything this makes you hate the French language with the way they force it on people .. this is actually against human rights.
You raped us, killed us, decolonized us, we went missing, we lost our language, we were forced into residential schools, our bones are still laying underneath parliament. These are the lost words I speak for my Mohawk ancestors of my NATION.
Quebec behaving like Indian Kashmiri Separatists. Need a PM with spine to bring these separatists under control.
NO FRENCH ON MY ANCESTORS STOLEN LAND!!!!!!
I don’t want to see French on my stuff anymore. Fairs fair.
And that’s that 😒. The next prime minister has a Real job to do.
Thats one province will never visit.
Life is too short for this shit. I’m moving out of here.
Communist gvt
Glad I left
Montreal is a dump! 96 is making it extinguished
It’s long overdue, but it’s time to turf French as an official language. English it is. The arrogance in Quebec makes most Canadians wanna puke !
They just want more of a cut from the equalization payments. Welfare province lmao
francoislegault SJB_CAQ JustinTrudeau theJagmeetSingh It’s well past time that the Federal government take Quebec to court for the violation of Canadian citizens’ rights! This has been going on since Wolfe & Montcalm. It needs to end now!
What is our useless PM doing? Hiding again? Mandatory English for all other provinces! What are we doing to protect our English culture, nothing because we would be racists. Good luck trying to find anyone who speaks English in BC but that’s okay?
Don’t be mad. If you want to go there, learn some French. There’s 29 countries that speak French it’s a language worth learning a bit of.
can we get limits on french outside of quebec?
……services, etc. but do not want to offer the same. Totally out of line with any sort of national unity😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡
This is a disgusting development. Quebec government wants all the benefits of being part of Canada, but wants to be exempt from being a two-language nation. They expect the rest of the country to provide French road signs, food labels, instruction manuals, government…….
Dictator Legault. Backward Quebec. Maybe it's time for Canada to have a referendum and decide if we want to keep Quebec or tell them to get lost.
Quebec is going to make me speak French? Their language laws just make people dislike them even more.
Неужто съебывать опять пора 🤔
Majority government
So if I tell the judge in English to go.. himself nothing will happen 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Ugh so fucking boring.
We should build a Wall and a Border around them
What a joke. This is a typical Quebec leap back in time. Nonsense. c'est très ennuyeux. inutile et ennuyeux.
I say we ask Trump if we can have his Mexican wall money and build a wall around Quebec if no one is welcome then you shouldn’t be allowed out!
We had 2 trips planned to Quebec for later this year. Both are cancelled. We will never spend one single penny in Quebec. Period. I will boycott online Quebec companies that I previously used. Contacting those companies privately.
The Quebec government is no better than the American Republicans so worried about the French language dying. The Republicans are worried about their whiteness being threatened. That’s RACISM!
Why aren’t more people angry about this. We are a bilingual country not bilingual everywhere but Quebec!
Trudeau has no business being the Prime Minister of Canada. He does not inforce our Canadian constitutional rights or simply stand up for them. We have to vote all liberals out. And stand strong to protect the Canadian English language. Trudeau and his father has ruined Canada.
I wonder how this will impact tourism. My french is rusty. I've always made an attempt where & when I can, but revert to English when needs be (accuracy/clarity). Depending on how zealous they are with this, it might deter ppl from visiting... unless that's part of the goal. 🤷♀️
Why the heck should we have French in rest of Canada. Remove the highway signs and the printed material in govt offices and websites. Boycott French as they are limiting the use of English.
This breaks our Canadian Charter….. I assume the Liberal government will immediately take action….
Trudeau said he can't do anything about it unless people complain. Well they did ! What is the Canadian Prime Minister doing to protect our English rights He is a corrupt communist and only does what his French Quebec buddies tell him to do. He never says no to a Frenchman.
So a province can make laws that go against basic Canadian laws? Why do we even have a Prime Minister of Canada? Why have the Charter either? Is Quebec it's own country now? Maybe they should print their own money, and start a military.
Yet in Northern Ontario you have speak French as a second language for a Federal job. Hypocrites
For god sakes, it's the 21st Century Quebec! Grow up
That should be good for business. Remember when Montreal was the biggest city in Canada and financial capitol? Would still be, but hey, french gonna french. I love Quebec, but this is really getting stupid. Short sighted and ignores potential unintended consequences.
Xenophobia alive and well in Quebec. Wonder how they’d like it if the rest of the country limited the use of French in a similar manner?
Year by year. Day by day. Little by little. Bit by bit. There’s really not much of Canada left in Quebec is there? They’re all but gone. Seperation funded by the Liberals along the way. Pure genius Legault. Canada Trudeau Quebec
It's ok, anglophone Quebecers just need to make sure they don't ever need to use the legal system.
This is not over and needs to go to Supreme Court of Canada. English Quebec citizens have rights the province must provide. Quebec is truly a racist prejudiced province. The separatists hate that English is so prominent in Montreal and surrounding areas. The bigotry is gross!
Quebec is the bottom pit of Canada .
the USA needs to invade quebec and replace the fascist regime holding it back
so services must be held in both languages across the country except in quebec where they only have to be in french.... got it...
A sad, sad day for freedom and individual rights.
Can we not demonize the people in quebec for the actions of their politicians. Do all us in ontario want to be judged by actions of our government.
I guess the Canadian charter guaranteeing access in both official languages doesn’t apply to the “have not” province of Quebec. It’s shameful. JustinTrudeau
More cbcnews Quebec adopts controversial law overhauling French Language Charter.
quebec needs to separate already
