The cross-country season marked the first full-fledged return for elementary sports in Burnaby since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Hundreds of students in Grades 4 to 7 have gathered weekly behind the Burnaby Lake Rugby Club off Sperling Avenue since Sept. 12 to test their mettle on a course beside Burnaby Lake.

The return of cross-country marks the first full-fledged return for elementary sports, many of which were cancelled completely during the pandemic.For cross-country, students train at their schools and then meet at Burnaby Lake to race.Follow Cornelia Naylor on Twitter @CorNaylor
