Toffoli, Pearson started out as enemies but quickly became friends

When Tanner Pearson slashed Tyler Toffoli in the face during a fierce Ontario Hockey League game between the Barrie Colts and Ottawa 67’s nearly a decade ago, the pair truly disliked another.

“It was two top players, two good teams. I mean it’s like any two good teams going at it. We were probably the best, or top two teams in our division anyway, maybe one more. It was fun.” “I remember he slashed me in the chin there,” Toffoli said, chuckling. “I don’t want to say too much and hurt his feelings over there.”

“It’s funny when you’re playing in Manch, obviously you’re playing with guys but at the same time you’re trying to get that call up and everyone wants to get there,” he said. “Fortunately we both got there and carried the chemistry from Manch over to the Kings.” And his thrill about joining the Canucks, who are pushing for the playoffs and hoping to make a splash in the wide-open Pacific Division, is obvious.

“I know playing against them the Canucks are a really exciting team. They’ve got a lot of skill and I’m just really excited to be able to join them and bring the skill that I have and the two-way game that I bring and just try to contribute as much as I can.”
