Israel rejects findings, with the country's defence minister calling them 'a blatant lie'Yellow tape marks bullet holes on a tree where Al Jazeera journalist Shireen Abu Akleh was shot and killed in the West Bank city of Jenin. The Palestinian Authority said Thursday that its investigation shows Abu Akleh was deliberately killed by Israeli forces. Israel has rejected the findings.
Abu Akleh, a veteran Palestinian-American reporter for Al Jazeera's Arabic service, was shot in the head on May 11Witnesses and Palestinian officials have said she was hit by Israeli fire. Israel says she was shot during a battle between Israeli soldiers and Palestinian militants. It says that only a ballistic analysis of the bullet — which is held by the Palestinian Authority — and the soldiers' guns can determine who fired the fatal shot.
Al Khateeb said his investigation was based on interviews with witnesses, an inspection of the scene and a forensic medical report. In a speech later Thursday, Israeli army chief Lt.-Gen. Aviv Kochavi said it was impossible to know who fired the bullet and once again called on the Palestinians to co-operate to "get to the bottom" of what happened.
The military has identified the rifle that may have been used in that scenario, but says it needs to test the bullet to make any final determination.Journalist Shireen Abu Akleh killed while covering Israeli raid in West BankShireen Abu Akleh, a journalist for Al Jazeera, was shot and killed while covering an Israeli raid in the occupied West Bank town of Jenin early Wednesday.
The PA has refused to hand over the bullet to Israel or co-operate with it in any way, saying Israel cannot be trusted to investigate its own conduct. Rights groups say Israel has a poor record of investigating when security forces shoot Palestinians, with cases often languishing for months or years before being quietly closed. The PA administers parts of the Israeli-occupied West Bank. Hussein Al Sheikh, a top Palestinian official, said Thursday's report would be shared with the U.S.
They refuse to participate in a ballistics test thay would clear up the issue definitively.
An investigation done only by one side. When Israel openly asked for a joint investigation, which CBC and every other ‘western’ news source failed to mention, Palestinian officials said ‘no’. Any and all credibility has been lost.
Why doesn't this story mention bellingcat's open-source investigation into this killing? Their investigators are highly skilled, and more importantly, impartial, unlike both Israel & Palestine. OSINT ShireenAbuAkleh
So you mean a reporter in trying to get a story who approached to closely to the crises died while being targeted and maybe not by the fact that she was in the wrong place at the wrong time…
This is completely untrue . Typical CBC Anti-Semitism!Why won’t Hamas and the PA turn over the autopsy results or the bullet!!! The PA and Hamas are dedicated to exterminating Jews and Israel.
Israel is an apartheid state don't expect too much..
Of course it did. About as predictable as the arrival of Santa Claus on December 25th.
Why listen to an investigation by either the Israeli or Palestinians. They are both too biased in their views.
Yeah I was following this on a few news pages. Israel needs to be investigated for this and another recent attack that was reported as Israel's responsibility
