Ottawa woman recovering in Mexico hospital after attack in resort hotel

The family of an Ottawa woman who was attacked and beaten while vacationing in Tulum, Mexico are rallying support for the woman as she recovers in hospital.

That’s when the vacation took a “horrific” turn, her family said in Facebook postings and in a GoFundMe page dedicated to raising funds to support York’s medical bills and her travel home.“Late one evening Lexie went for a bite to eat at the resort restaurant and was befriended by a couple. Later that evening there was a knock on Lexie’s door and the man claimed to be there to check on Lexie.

After waiting approximately 48 hours to reduce the swelling, doctors performed more than nine hours of reconstructive surgery. “Lexie is a beautiful, intelligent, kind hearted, generous and trusting young woman,” the Knights executive wrote in a Facebook posting.
