.SusanDelacourt: Why is Justin Trudeau in a rut? Maybe it’s all the slogans

Justin Trudeau made it through an entire news conference on Friday without saying his government had Canadians’ backs. This is progress.

Journalists hate the robotic sloganeering, but that’s beside the point. Stephen Harper once said that if the media is rolling its eyes at a repeated phrase — like “Canada’s new government,” in his case — that’s about the time the words are only starting to penetrate the public consciousness. The same is true about another tactic that politicians of all stripes have embraced when answering questions before the cameras. Rather than look in the direction of the questioner, they stare into the camera and recite their lines. It’s jarring to see in real life and not much better on screen either. My colleague Tonda MacCharles periodically suggests on social media that this whole practice be discontinued, because it makes the politicians look like robots. That is true.

SusanDelacourt Maybe it's the fact that everything that comes out of his mouth is a lie and he's accomplished absolutely nothing while PM (unless you count the debt and division he's created) Just a thought.

SusanDelacourt Maybe it’s because he’s incompetent, corrupt, dishonest, and arrogant, but hey great hair! Never ceases to amaze me that not a single journo at the Star ever does a story on these character traits of the most hated PM in Canadian history.

SusanDelacourt He’s been in a rut for 6 years! He’s a brutal leader and I’m embarrassed every time he opens his mouth to speak.

SusanDelacourt In a rut? No, he’s a liberal drip feeding the poor in Canada for votes, that’s it. All intended.

SusanDelacourt In a world of flashing images, newly invented words, fluctuating markets, unprecedented weather events... PLEASE give me a rut! Give me stability, reliability, and reassurances someone's got my back. Grateful to have a steady hand guiding us through this storm. Yay for ruts!

ChantalHbert SusanDelacourt Who cares about a rut? You didn’t care when Harper muzzled scientists, told FN he didn’t care about missing women and children, wouldn’t take in Syrians during a humanitarian crisis! Do you prefer that type of leader? I’ll stick with what we’ve got!

SusanDelacourt he always has been, nothing but a virtue signaller, just more people waking up to the realization

SusanDelacourt Hey Susan, How about you stop these fluff posts and deal with real issues? Highest inflation in 30 years, right? JustinTrudeau policies have played a role in inflation and you say nothing, why?

SusanDelacourt Maybe it's all in Susan's fervent desire to see a rut.
