Ontario schools will not reopen for in-person learning until September

The decision contradicts the provincial government’s previous promise to reopen classrooms before the economy, which is currently set to begin on June 14.

A source told CTV News Toronto on Wednesday the provincial government is now actively considering whether to speed up the implementation of Step 1.

You didn't think that way 6 months ago when no one was vaccinated. The conflict between the statements from last 12 months during this pandemic drives me to these possible conclusions: one is to start believing in all gossip on Facebook or... we have an incompetent leadership.

I would not want his job. Maybe all you people that have bad comments about his decision should go into politics and walk a mile in his shoes for a while...I do not believe there is a right or wrong decision...I am sure his decision is based on the data he has received.

This is 100% the best thing that came out of FORDS mouth in awhile. When schools were open everyone bitch to close schools now that all these parents have to deal with there childern during the day they want them back open. You can't have it both ways..

That was an obvious call. Even if it were safe, why open two weeks before summer break?

By the time this farce of a team gets its act together about summer programs for kids the summer will be over!!! The adults will be fine the children are not!

Ford refused to keep schools safe. Schools could be opened if he: Capped classes at 15 Hired more teachers & EAs Invested in education instead of cutting over $1.6 this year Prioritized educator vaccines Procured more classroom space improved classroom ventilation

Shame on you for putting business before kids!

It would take time to prepare and tax payer money for students to go back for what 2 week's max once notice given. I support Ford's decision.
