Most polls currently suggest Ontarians are prepared re\u002Delect the PCs, with the Liberals appearing to lead the NDP in a tight battle for second place

With the premier expected to call an election next week, the NDP and Liberals both say they are not interested in forming an alliance similar to thebetween Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and federal NDP leader Jagmeet Singh. That deal saw the federal NDP agree to provide Trudeau’s minority government with guaranteed support, allowing him to rule as if he had a majority.

When asked if the two provincial parties might plan to try and form a ruling coalition should they have enough seats to do so, an Ontario NDP official simply responded “No.”Article content The NDP spokesperson said in an emailed statement that the party was focusing on beating Ford on its own and did not need the Liberals. “We’re as few as 10 seats away from forming government, and are going into the election with 40 seats,” the statement said. “Steven Del Duca’s Liberals have just seven seats. They can’t win this election.”

An Ontario Liberal party spokesperson said they also have no interest in taking their relationship with the NDP to the next level. “Ontario voters know that you vote Liberal to get rid of Conservatives.”

They shouldn’t be in Coalition in the first place

At least someone understands the difference between 'I can' and 'I should'

acoyne Are you calling it a coalition because that’s what most of your readers think it is? You know that’s not what it is, right? Right…?

This is a stubbornly stupid position for NDP and Liberals to take given latest polls with neither party winning. They care more about their own political fortunes than future of Ontario. Ford will win & it will be their fault. We should all vote Green and abandon them both

Kind of like how the federal NDP ruled out the the same?

They pretend not to be planning a coalition Because each Party wants to retain its usual voters, with its distinct platform and promises. But if Ford gets only a minority, the NDP and Liberals will quickly come to an agreement.

To be fair, the federal NDP and LPC would also have ruled it out... *before* the election.

Of course they do! Ask them again post election after they've lost the you'll get the truthful answer

acoyne Seems one NDP/liberal/ CBC coalition Party is already too much for Canadians.

Which they will. I never much doubt that the anti-Ford majority will break for one party or the other. Vote will split, and Ford will win a majority

That's because Del Duca and Horvath will both be out as leaders of they don't win.

You'll never find out what crimes Ford has done till he's out of office. OntarioNDP and OntLiberal MUST work together. Or everyone loses except his donors: the filthy rich, corporations and property developers. SaveOntario StopDougFord onpoli

Stupid question. ask it of all three parties after the people have spoken

Disaster for Ontario waiting

IF Not much of a if !!!!

Ndp Ontario I like to see one day. Rob ford would be rolling over his grave.

Pretty sure neither the ON lib or ndp want to govern in 2022.

acoyne 'coalition'? Does anyone at the do any actual research? Christ!

Looks like the bottom 30% economically of Ontarians will have 4 more years of hell. People missing their legs, are legally blind, going through cancer treatment, etc haven't got cost of living increase from ODSP in 4yrs. You can't walk, speak or see BUT GO GET a JOB ANYWAY! Sad.

The federal liberals and NDP also ruled out a coalition. Turns out they just lied.

They may not form a 'coalition' but there may be some kind of 'working arrangement made.

acoyne Why would they rule it out? Why limit options?

WHO CARES. FATTY IS NOT GOING TO WIN NOTHING

no one in the pc camp believes this , obviously will be an ndp/liberal coalition if the pc's don't win a majority . the opposition wants power so badly and that is the only realistic way they could get it rate now

Because the left never lies?

The ONDP and OLP should just converge to the OLNDP and the federal NDPC and LPC should converge to form the LNDPC. Do we really need 2 left wing extremist parties that pretend to act for the common people and not the rich elites?

Can we just rename them the Toronto Metropolitan Party yet? It will make it easier for future cancelling historians.

Federal liberals and NDP said the same thing during the election. They were being deliberately deceptive. Now they are in a pact. Ontario Libs and NDP will do the same. Vote pc.

The federal arrangement isn’t a coalition! How is this one of our national newspapers?

As if - one party hasn’t been relevant since before the internet was a thing (ONDP) and the other doesn’t even have official party status at Queens Park (OLP) - first sniff of power and these two will create some monstrosity and claim it’s the democratic will of Ontarions.

Opinion | The Saturday Debate: Should the provincial Liberals and NDP form an alliance?Tim Ellis and Tom Parkin debate whether the Ontario Liberals and NDP should follow their federal cousins to form government after the June 2 election. Without question. But if they were smart, they would have gone further and managed local elections to avoid vote splitting. But I appreciate that’s an entirely impossible ask from self centred politicos. NO Yes

Ceremony to be held for fallen Ontario police officersOntario Premier Doug Ford, Lieutenant Governor Elizabeth Dowdeswell and other dignitaries will take part in a ceremony to honour fallen Ontario police officers in person for the first time since 2019 Sunday. One of few occupations who get a special ceremony when a worker dies..workers die often on job sites and they don't get a special ceremony.. This won't be happening if the NDP or liberals win the Ontario election. They both pushed for 'defunding' and 'abolishing' the police. Their base is mad up of cop hater types. Why they are so special? Aren't they public employees just like TTC drivers? But you don't see ceremonies for them.
