O’Toole says he would criminalize blocking ‘critical’ infrastructure, allow police to clear protests

OTTAWA — Conservative leadership candidate Erin O’Toole says that as prime minister, he would introduce legislation to designate ports and major railways, highways and bridges as critical national infrastructure and to make it a criminal offence to block them, even without a court injunction.

MacKay replaced it with a series of late-night tweets taking a more nuanced position that supported the “peaceful removal of debris deliberately placed on a railway that posed a threat to public safety,” and noted the counter-protesters had said they weren’t being violent. He went on to say the blockades are due to Trudeau’s “weakness and indecision,” saying the prime minister has “made it crystal clear that he will not stand up for the rule of law but will instead bow down to those who want to shut down our economy.”

It would also make it a criminal offence “to block a railway, airport, port, or major road, or to block the entrance to a business or household in a way that prevents people from lawfully entering or leaving.”

nationalpost Hardly critical

nationalpost Don't tell us erinotoole is a hypocrite - we know. You have access to his spokespeople/commuications ppl so why not ask him why he supports the trucker convoy but not the blockade:

nationalpost O’Toole supports domestic terrorists that are in Ottawa today.

acoyne nationalpost Because getting an injunction is so inconvenient?

nationalpost And now, erinotoole

acoyne nationalpost Erin O’Toole, the master of all opportunities, as he sees it.

acoyne nationalpost I think the funny thing that reconciles the support of the protests in Ottawa with protecting critical infrastructure is the simple fact that our government is not critical.

nationalpost The truckers don’t even have an FN permit and these Clowns are allowed to block downtown!

Another not so oldie,

acoyne nationalpost . . . on which day of the week?

nationalpost Who is blocking critical infrastructure now?

nationalpost erinotoole what do you read a poll and then change your minds? It is not like people have not provided you solutions to defeating JustinTrudeau

Trains on the way

Force is a *LAST* resort, not the first go-to! There is an injunction, the police could already do that, they just know that physical force is not the first option to consider.

Why is this not already a law?

I’m liking him more and more each day.

Who cares what he says? Country is about to rip apart.

Navigators should be criminalized first

Ok racist Boomer

He’s come up with the Freedom of Escalation act. Doubt it sees the light of day

Any actions to restore the order, especially through law enforcement would be appreciated.

Yeees!

It's already a criminal offence to block road, rail or people. The problem is not laws it is a gutless government and police force that would rather let criminals and terrorists destroy the country cdnpoli

Finally.... a voice of reason! Canada

I never said anything of the sort.👍

Then he’s got my vote.

This guy gets my vote.

You mean it’s not already a crime?

RickAkozak Who the fuck will enforce it.

Yes!!! When can you start?

It already is 'criminalized' in the Criminal Code of Canada!

We don’t need new laws. Just enforce the ones you have.

Am i out to lunch or is that not currently the law?

If they want to protest peacefully in hopes of negotiating then fine. picket beside the lines. By blocking the rail lines and allowing them to shut down supply routes for residents and businesses they're acting more like terrorists instead of peaceful protesters stoptheblockade

It's already illegal. WTF are the CN cops for?

tory_wiggins Police have the lawful authority to clear the rail lines now but won't.

O’Toole has the same fascist/thug mentality as that man down in the US currently occupying the White House.

We need our BC Provincial Police back The RCMP work for Ottawa

We need that now! not tomorrow or the day after! Harrassment by these lawbreakers to the hardworking tax payers is never acceptable! Severe punishment must be dealt so no one will abuse such entitlement!

What a tool

Should also ban paid for hire protestors.

Yup... we expect nothing of value from the CPC_HQ Conservatives anyway - profit and kill the planet before any humanity or common sense. That seems to be the only thing these old white okboomers want... destroy everything - build through sacred land... because... greed.

samike88 Good👍👍

ErinOTooleMP Coming to a reservation near you!

punditclass But the police won’t!

punditclass The laws are already there enforce them

punditclass Excellent idea.

Are not trespassing and mischief already illegal?

Um...wtf...ITS ALREADY CRIMINALIZED! There is LOTS of laws on the books to deal with this BS. But it has evolved into the gutless police needing to go to the unaccountable courts to tell them to do what the ALREADY are allowed to do! MY GOD!! insantity

Its a useless power. Once court orders injunction, it is already quasi-criminal contempt of court to disregard the order. The law provides the power already, the question is when/how it is used - and the criminal code can't/won't provide for that. Meaningless show by O'Toole.

That's what the recent polls show the majority of Canadians want as well. But don't expect Trudeau, his media mafia or George Soros paid imported American Lefties to support a positive plan for Canada. After all it comes from a Conservative.

Bring out the water trucks. These guys are fair weather protesters. Where is the pay master

Get with the game partner. This activity is already against the law. A good law suit would clear this rabble immediately. Oh that's right only lawyers can sue in Canada. Torte is dead in Canada unless you are independently wealthy. MORE CRAP, MADE IN CANADA.

what they should do is enact domestic terrorism bill into the criminal code and enforce them

jesus it,s already a crime

O’Toole says he would criminalize blocking critical infrastructure. Its already a criminal offence in Canada and in the US railways are private property. He should use Google a little more often. cdnpoli

I hope this does not happen. More talking needs to happen.

What a O’TOOLE 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡

I think we understand how this works he'll criminalize it till the next generation of libtards take control.I believe it is Criminal to begin with and against the law.

Is it not already criminalized? I thought that injunctions was already served and all that was needed was for the RCMP and the provinces police force to enforce the court order. Let the Wet'suet'en people work this out together.

O’Toole with all due respect, you won’t become prime minister

Good luck enforcing that one. Oh, wait. It's O'Toole. He hasn't been relevant since Pete came back

He is bang on.

The ONLY reason the MOHAWKS are crying wolf is because they also want a PIECE of the ACTION! They want a CUT! It all comes down to MONEY...HONEY!

Matt Gurney: Indigenous leaders understand the dangers of this moment. Does Trudeau? If Trudeau thinks he’s in a tough spot now, wait until millions of normally placid Canadians start demanding police clear the blockades, reconciliation be damned It don't matter FN’s need to get their ‘leadership’ sorted out. Elected chiefs should speak for their people (it’s 2020) not heriterary chiefs (with all due respect). It would be like the Queen of England overriding their Parliamnent. Just can’t have two leadership groups on opposite sides! Trudeau certainly doesn’t understand hypocrisy, democracy or the law.
