Why didn't more Canadians vote last year? StatCan says disinterest in politics was the main reason

Of the 23 per cent of eligible Canadians who reported that they did not vote, this was the most common reason across most age groups.

As well, Canadian citizens by birth who didn't vote were more likely to report a lack of interest in politics than naturalized citizens or immigrants who have been in Canada for more than 10 years. The questions added in to the Labour Force Survey were commissioned by Elections Canada to get more insight into the reasons why Canadians didn't vote in the Oct. 21, 2019 federal election.

This would be why our country is collapsing before our eyes.

Hope they are happy to have Trudeau the Clown As PM!

Because it don’t matter who gets in, they are all corrupt. Why waste my precious time?

More like our votes don't count. Ontario and Quebec deciding everything. Let's vote to leave this shitty country.

These people need a history lesson. Many Canadians died to protect the right to vote and these people don't respect that honour. These people take their freedom for granted. They wouldn't even be here because they do not belong to the Master Race. Small minds!

No, just plain lazy.

🤦🏽‍♀️

Not interested in politics, not interested in voting. Forest Gump summed it up: “ Stupid is as stupid does!” .

That's because voting is like asking someone what colour pipe they'd like to be beaten with.

It isn’t disinterest, it’s distrust. And lack of selection. They’re all for they’re party and fattening they’re own pockets. The PM is just trying to make himself look superior in the eyes of climate change activists. In doing so, he neglects a large percentage of Canadians. 👎🏼

They never vote, but they're always the first to complain

It is political decisions (poor decisions by incompetent politicians currently in power) that are currently destroying this country. People need to get involved.

Haha this is very sad to me. We have a right that most other countries only dream of!

Not interested in organized crime*

It's because the politicians have no idea what's important to the majority, they tell us what's important, but that's not true, the conservatives would have won, if they had a idea of what's important. ..... that's on them.

Dont believe a word of this garbage. The election was rigged and Elections Canada participated.

They didn't vote because all they had to vote for was shit head Trudeau, weak Scheer, and Shamata head peacock Singh.

Without electoral reform democracy is but an illusion.

We can’t afford to be “uninterested”! If you have a family, work, are on social assistance, pay taxes, use any public service, or will ever need healthcare, you need to care about who is in government!

There was no one worth voting for.

Our election system is garbage. Any party only needs to win the maritimes, Quebec, Ontario. So our votes don't matter.

Any wonder with lip flapping politicians soliciting for their jobs at election time. The greater majority of voters don’t trust or have a high regard for politicians.

Conservatives cannot get over that Ontario voted NDP or Liberal - none of us after Fordnation wanted Conservatives. Or very few did. They should take that as a CLUE - Screw people over and you lose votes.

I think that CDN’s have lost faith in not only the politicians but the whole political process. When was the last time a politician actually answered a question or was held accountable for wrong doings? CDN’s think that regardless of who they vote for, nothing will change

Not surprising!

Brilliant report. Next time go to Tim Horton’s and ask the customers there.

The census is mandatory but voting isn’t?

There was realy no one who earned peoples votes.

Uninspiring weak leaders will do that.

It's our electoral system. Proportional representation would increase the value of the vote, and that would bring out lots more voters. No more worries about splitting the vote, or not voting because your riding is already settled (mine has been Liberal since 1993).

Because its all a game to the politicianers. No one is for us anymore. We need a straight shooter that does not lean to the left or right. But in todays crazy world good luck finding that. Its a shame that we had to come to people siding with left or right and not doing facts.

People forgot polititians were full of S**t. Now they pick sides and follow their candidate like disciples as their Messiah spews BS about their enemies. Both sides full of people who can't think for themselves as they await the word of their Messiah to tell them who to hate.

People out side of Toronto and Montreal don't feel their votes count.

No dam wonder all idiots

VanRoth815 Why don't you investigate how Trudeau committed fraud by fixing the election in the GTA. Make yourself useful.

Because we knew it would be pointless. And since the liberal added even more ridings in areas where liberal voters are. They've effectively created a win win situation for themselves. The conservatives won, yet Trudeau still has his job.....

This is what politicians want. Its called voter suppression and is being used throughout the US and we are seeing it in Canada. Keeping the population disinterested and disconnected is a positive goal for many politicos - especially on the right.
