Thunder Bay's Northwest Narwhal Swim Club competed at the 2022 Ontario Summer Festival Championships held in Etobicoke last weekend. The team sent six swimmers to this event. Elly Bodnar, Paige Brown, Zoe Hogard, Hayden Nisula, Jillian Thompson ended up placing third overall in the women's division out of 77 teams behind host club Etobicoke Swimming and Toronto Swim Club.
The team was led by Zoe Hogard in her first provincial-level meet, winning six Gold medals. Elly Bodnar won five Bronze, Katherine Warkentin with three Gold and Paige Brown won a Silver and two Bronze medals. All six swimmers had personal best times. Head Coach David Iwanyszyn said "All six swimmers swam great, they all put in 100 percent effort and the results showed. We ranked right up there with the best teams in Canada at this 13 and under swimming championships. I knew that we were going to perform well going into this meet, we have been training hard and the results leading up to this meet were solid.
The next competition the Narwhals are attending is the Manitoba/Saskatchewan Championships in Saskatoon, July 6-10.
