New Fire Station No. 1 has been built to post-disaster standards

Today, all members working at Fire Station No. 1 are in the new 23,000-square-foot building, slated to be completed in late fall. They started the two-week move in mid-July.“Our firefighters are very, very grateful to be in our new facility,” Nanaimo Fire Chief Tim Doyle said this week.

Next on the agenda is dismantling the old fire hall next door. That area will be paved and used as a place for fire trucks to turn around and for parking. The new structure is larger and houses all department services and operations in one building, including firefighters, fire prevention officers, investigations, and administration.
