Marc Gold, Trudeau’s new man in the Senate, says he intends to remain non-partisan

OTTAWA – Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s new man in the Senate said he intends to remain non-partisan, even as he helps move Liberals bills through the red chamber.

Trudeau expelled Liberal senators from the party’s caucus in 2014, even before coming to power and has been appointing independent senators through a non-partisan process since he was elected. Alongside the independent group, which is the largest with 51 senators, there are the Conservatives with 23 and a new group called the Canadian Senators Group has 13, there are 11 non-affiliated Senators and seven vacant seats.“I have confidence that the individual senators and the groups in the Senate will understand that the legislation we get from the House of Commons will be the product of compromise and multi-party support,” he said.
