Major Canadian travel insurers stop covering coronavirus trip cancellations

Manulife and TuGo have both decided that coronavirus is now a “known” issue and cancellation coverage no longer applies.

“Manulife has determined that COVID-19 is now considered a known event and the applicable exclusion will be applied for individual travel insurance policies issued on or after this date,” Manulife said in a statement to CTVNews.ca. “If TCII was purchased after the government of Canada issued a high level advisory, you cannot use it as a reason to cancel or interrupt your trip,” Manulife said.

Unfortunately, after reading most of the comments, I have to disagree as this is not an accident or a natural disaster. When will our elected leader JustinTrudeau and the liberal_party stop all international travel?

The Insurance Companies are all out getting people to buy insurance. As soon as people really need this insurance, these companies back off. It is fine to buy insurance but a threat of having to pay out, they want out. Insurance is a scam!

I knew they would do this because they don’t care about travellers. They just want their money to stay in their pocket. Shameful.

This should be against the law, what's the point of trip cancellation insurance if you can't use it.

Insurance company only provides coverage on things they never have to pay out or things that they can easily deny paying out. Useless

Insurance companies will shy away from anything that will cost them money. The Insurance Industry: Hundreds of people selling insurance, thousands of people trying to find a way not to pay.
